After breakfast, we went around Clarens to see what this town was all about. Lots of stores, outdoor cafes, art galleries, souvenir shops, and even a brewery, all around this massive park/square in the middle of town. Clearly a weekend place for people from Johannesburg and Durbin (it is right in between). Everybody was out strolling around.
Surprisingly, the surrounding areas look a lot like the canyons in Utah/Arizona. We rode through the Golden Gates Highlands National Park ... wow ... massive mountains and valleys all in the style of the American west ... you can tell a lot of water went through these parts a long time ago to have carved such terrain.
The rest of the way was a straight ride north through some nice undulating terrain. Lots of agriculture around here. The countryside and the towns are getting more populated and poorer. We are only 150 miles from Johannesburg.
We arrived at Ermelo for the night. We found this great B&B and spent the evening with the chef/owner and Jason and Cornell, who were on their first date after having their first baby 3 months ago. Amazing food, great conversation, and, I also learned a little Rugby tonight from Jason.
Tomorrow, we head into Kruger National Park.
