Today, we took Richard’s bike to the BMW dealer to have TKC-80’s installed and to load his GPS with the Africa maps that we could not do in the US.
After that, we headed to Mussel Bay, one of the most beautiful spots in the southern South African coast and were a lot of people from Cape Town have weekend houses.
The ride was spectacular and an eye opener to the inside of South Africa … vineyards everywhere … steep mountain surrounding amazing valleys … great twisty mountain passes … went through the Karoo valley (I finally know where the Karoo Wild Tires get their name from : ) … bought dried fruit in Montague and stopped by the famous Diesel and Cream burger joint on Route 62.
We visited a dairy farm belonging to an Afrikaans family in the middle of a Swiss-like valley where a friend of Garry had left his motorcycle after a crash last week. Learned more about the racial and ethnic divides and hang-ups that still linger around. Too many to mention here.
Mussel Bay is a beautiful bay … rocky on one side, sandy on the other, facing straight South into the ocean. Climbed to the top of the light house on the cliff and had a few drinks and snacks by the shore.
Linda and Paul are friends of Jill and Garry and they invited us to stay at their 6 bedroom house overlooking the ocean. Again, great South African hospitality. Everybody wants to have us at their house : ) … had a nice BBQ dinner with lots of meat again and called it a day.
Tomorrow we will explore the town and perhaps dive with the sharks!?!
